PENGERTIAN EXPRESSION FOR AGREEing DAN DISAGREEing

Expression for agreeing artinya ekspresi atau ungkapan yang menyatakan setuju dengan pendapat orang lain. Expressing agree berarti mengekspresikan persetujuan.

Expression for disagreeing artinya ekspresi atau ungkapan yang menyatakan tidak setuju dengan pendapat orang lain. Expressing disagree berarti mengekspresikan ketidaksetujuan.

Biasanya ungkapan setuju atau tidak setuju dimulai dengan adanya sebuah pendapat (atau opinion, yang kita pelajari minggu lalu) yang dikemukakan. Seperti contoh dibawah ini:

Teacher   :	Ok, class! The exhibition of student creations will be held at Kartini ballroom. Do you agree with that?
Students  :	yes sir, I agree with you.

Kalimat yang bergaris bawah merupakan salah satu bentuk ungkapan setuju. Ada beberapa ungkapan setuju dalam bahasa Inggris yang bisa kita gunakan antara lain:

• I couldn't agree with you more.
• That's so true.
• That's for sure.
• (slang) Tell me about it!
• You're absolutely right.
• Absolutely.
• That's exactly how I feel.
• Exactly.
• I'm afraid I agree with James.
• I have to side with Dad on this one.
• No doubt about it.
• (agree with negative statement) Me neither.
• (weak) I suppose so./I guess so.
• You have a point there.
• I was just going to say that.

Terkadang kita juga menolak sebuah pendapat, inilah yang disebut dengan disagreement dalam bahasa Inggris. Seperti contoh dibawah ini:

Linda :	Rica said that there is a new Mexican restaurant in the campus cafetaria, they serve spicy hot dogs and sour meat. What about go there after the class?
Lucy  :	I’m not sure, I do not like spicy foods.

San: yeah, tell us about it now
Ben: Ok, it’s actually about our class. I need to make our class more colorful. Do you agree?
Ado: Yes i do. I agree with you.
San: I am not sure, I am afraid that our class advisor will be angry with us if we don’t ask her first.
Ben: how about you, Dio?
Dio: I agree up to a point, but I think what was said by San is right. We have to discuss it not only with our class advisor but also with our classmates.
Ben: Yeah that’s right, I think that it is good idea but I am not confident enough to present this idea in the class.
San: Really? Hmm let me do it and everyone must agree with me hehehe
Ado: No, no, no! No need to be arrogant please. I disagree with you. We must also hear our classmate’s opinion.
Ben: Yeah, that’s right.
San: Ok no problem.
Dio: What a great plan, let’s make it real as soon as possible!
Ben: Ok!
San: Right now?
Ado: Of course now!
